Traffic along the Nairobi-Nakuru Highway at Mai Mahiu has been disrupted following the temporary closure of the busy road.
The road was closed on Friday, March 15, morning to facilitate a rescue operation for a truck involved in an accident.
In photos and videos shared by the motorists on site, vehicles operating on both lanes were locked out of the section.
Kenyan filmmaker and the Production Manager at Afrika Live Media, Thuku Wa Kariuki, revealed that the road had been closed as heavy-duty machinery was deployed to lift the wreckage (a container) which had fallen by the side of the road.
According to the journalist the truck had been at the scene for the last three days.
"Mai Mahiu road closed for a truck rescue mission. This truck has been here for three days," he stated.
Further, to avoid further accidents, traffic marshals were stationed at various parts of the road to guide motorists on keeping their distance.
Some vehicles were photographed parked hundreds of metres away from the scene.
Motorists planning on using the road were also advised to seek alternative means of getting to their destination.
It is unclear when the highway, usually used by trucks and vehicles heading to western Kenya, will be reopened.
At the time of publication, the cause of the truck accident was also yet to be known.
