Kenyans heading to Mombasa and Nairobi on Wednesday night were forced to spend the night in the cold at Sultan Hamud.

This was after a heavy traffic jam paralysed movement along Mombasa Road forcing motorists and passengers to spend the night in the vast wilderness demarcating Makueni and Kajiado counties.

According to reports, the traffic jam started at 9:00 pm on Wednesday and by Thursday morning, March 14, it had not eased.

This affected passengers who were travelling for different engagements in Nairobi and Mombasa.

Additionally, truck drivers were also forced to spend the night at Sultan Hamud making them miss their delivery schedule.

Kenya Transporters Association (KTA) has not issued a statement yet on how much traders have lost due to the missed delivery schedules.

On the other hand, the Motorists Association of Kenya (MAK) has called on the relevant authorities to act swiftly and ease the traffic jam.

“Travellers to and from Mombasa have slept in the wildernesses Sultan Hamud, all the way no movement,” MAK decried.

MAK wondered why the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) and National Police Service (NPS) had not done anything to clear the jam.

The traffic jam happened barely a week after another snarlup paralysed movement along the same road in Voi

Motorists and passengers were at the time also forced to spend the night on the road as the highway was blocked on both sides.

This escalated to a safety concern considering the vehicles were sandwiched between Tsavo East and West National Parks where wild animals are known to sprawl frequently.
