Kenyan Entertainer Arrested in Spain After Assaulting a British Woman on a Cruise Ship

A Kenyan who was working on the MSC Fantasia as an entertainer was arrested after he was accused of assaulting a British Woman.

According to reports, the suspect and the victim were dancing together before the incident occurred and he was apprehended on Friday, March 15.

The 27-year-old who worked at the luxury cruise ship was initially detained at a cabin before the ship docked in Palma, Spain and he was handed over to police officers.

The ship's captain told the press that he alerted the police and requested them to wait for the ship at the dock.

"A Kenyan national was arrested and handed over to the courts for further questioning yesterday. I am not in a position to say any more at this stage," an official told the press.

He was detained at the local police station undergoing interrogations. The man was also arraigned before the court but allegedly declined to respond to questions asked.

Additionally, police are examining the Kenyan's phone as investigations continue. The suspect was later released on bail but it was yet to be clarified whether his passport was confiscated or not.

On the other hand, the victim was taken to the local hospital for examinations. She is expected to help the police in investigations.

While responding to the incident, the spokesperson of MSC Cruises revealed that they were assisting police with the investigations adding that the safety of the passengers was given the utmost priority.

"We have an uncompromising code of conduct and do not tolerate any behaviour that puts our passengers at risk. As there is a criminal investigation underway we cannot provide any further comment," the spokesperson stated.

Notably, the ship which was on a seven-day round trip of the Western Mediterranean continued with its journey with over 4,000 passengers on board.

MSC Cruises is among the cruise ships offering jobs to Kenyans with the needed skills. Several ships have docked at the Port of Mombasa, offering Kenyans jobs and boosting tourism.
