Kileleshwa Member of County Assembly (MCA) Robert Alai was on Sunday, March 17, involved in an altercation with armed goons guarding a prime property in the area.

Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke, Alai explained that the goons, armed with lead pipes, attempted to whisk him away from the 200-metre property after he confronted them for breaking the county laws on planning regulations.

According to Alai, the law dictates that construction activities are allowed on weekdays till 5:00 pm and Saturdays until 6:00 pm. The law, however, prohibits contractors from conducting construction activities on Sundays.

He noted that he received complaints from residents living in proximity to the site who were unable to enjoy family time owing to noise emanating from the said property.

Following the complaints, Alai rushed to the scene and found construction activities ongoing. At the time, according to Alai, police officers were also on-site monitoring the work being done.

"I arrived at the scene on Sunday because there were concerns from the public that they couldn't enjoy family time because of the ongoing construction activities," he stated.

"The planning regulations are clear for weekdays, it's up to 5:00 pm, Saturdays till 6:00 pm, Sundays, no building at all. The owner is working with the officials in the county government to ensure the activities continue."

"When I arrived at the scene, police officers were on site to monitor the activities."

In the video, Alai engaged in a confrontation with the goons who began shoving him away from the compound, resulting in a chaotic encounter after several workers gathered around Alai and pushed him away from the makeshift gate.

The MCA attempted to fight back but the workers, armed with lead pipes, attacked him and instructed him to leave the premises.

Alai returned to his vehicle's boot and retrieved a pipe to protect himself from the goons who had exited the gate and started surrounding him.

The goons appeared set to attack the ODM politician once again.

The one-and-a-half-minute video ends in speculation over what happened thereafter. However, the MCA noted that the police swung into action and protected the citizens' rights after he raised concerns.

"It was not until I raised an issue with it is when they began taking action. These owners often take advantage," he noted.

"The planning regulations are clear on allowing the limits of activities. About 40 trees were felled on that day. The provision is that you return the property to its original condition after leasing. So how will they return it to its original condition?

"We have a President who champions climate change, why is this happening?" Alai posed.
