Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Tuesday arrested a former Prisons officer on allegations of involvement in the murder of two police officers in  Olemismis, Narok County last week.

The retired officer is accused of instigating the murder of two officers at Olemismis Village after the two deceased officers were sent to settle a Sacco-related matter with the suspect.

According to detectives, the murder suspect was nabbed at the Mara Forest in an intelligence-led operation staged by the detectives.

The murder victims left Nairobi on March 13. Officers in the Prisons Department claimed the trip was aimed at recovering a loan the suspect is said to have defaulted on.

Upon their arrival, the suspect's family at the homestead started screaming claiming that the two strangers were thugs.

As the situation started getting out of hand, the suspect’s sons violently attacked the officers using machetes, bows and arrows.

The officers, having sustained serious injuries from this confrontation, died.

The suspect was taken to the Kilgoris Police Station where he was interrogated to shed light on the murder of the two officers. Meanwhile, six people have been arrested so far concerning the incident.

In a similar incident on February 10, a police officer was shot dead after a group of armed men raided the Chepkum chief's camp in Elgeyo Marakwet County.

According to a police report, the incident occurred when the officer went to the toilet only to be ambushed by the armed men who shot him in the chest.

The gunshots alerted the other officers who rushed to the scene and found the cop lying in a pool of blood.

Investigations would later establish that the ambush was an act of revenge over a slain bandit who was shot dead on February 8, at Arror Centre.
