A 40-year-old man based in Bungoma County on Saturday, March 30, surrendered to police officers after hacking his wife to death at their matrimonial home.

According to a police report obtained by Kenyans.co.ke, the suspect engaged in marital conflict with his wife who was off-duty at the time.

She was a police officer based at Kiwanja Police Post in Kasarani, Nairobi and had been granted permission to attend the burial ceremony of her grandmother on Thursday, March 28, at Misemwa village.

Following the burial, she had a confrontation with her husband which turned into a physical altercation.

Moments later, the suspect fled from the scene.

Hours later, his brother visited the home and found the officer's body lying on the bed with several deep cuts on the neck and multiple injuries on the head.

The suspect's brother contacted the officers from Mbakalo Police Station who shortly arrived at the scene.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect used a sharp object to commit the crime. A panga, suspected to be the murder weapon, was recovered from the scene.

The body was transferred to Lugulu Mission Hospital Mortuary for preservation awaiting postmortem examination.

The report revealed that the suspect later surrendered at Mbakalo Police Station and was placed in custody.

According to a report by the National Crime and Research Centre, four out of ten women are affected by Intimate Partner Violence (IPV).

This often leads to divorce or separation, legal suits, alcohol abuse, drug/substance abuse, emotional detachments, suicidal tendencies and in extreme cases death.
