A minibus ferrying 46 passengers on Wednesday, April 10, got involved in an accident in the Kibwezi area of Makueni County.
Preliminary reports suggest the shuttle allegedly lost control before rolling into a nearby river which is situated in the Kibwezi area.
Following the incident, residents quickly embarked on rescue operations and in the process several passengers were safely evacuated from the wreckage.
However, some of the passengers sustained injuries but there were no reports of any fatalities.
According to witnesses, it was not the first time that the bus was involved in an accident along the same highway. In December last year, the shuttle lost control and plunged into the same river.
In the images shared widely, the shuttle could be seen leaning on one side even as residents gathered around the bus to witness the rescue operations.
The bus was deformed on the sides with a broken rear windshield, depicting the extent of the accident.
At the time of this reporting, police officers had not yet arrived at the scene of the incident to assess the situation.
In an analogous situation on April 9, 51 passengers were safely evacuated from a bus that had been swept away by raging floods along the Garissa-Mwingi road.
The bus was travelling from Wajir to Nairobi when it got trapped around the Tula area at 2 am forcing the occupants of the bus to spend the morning submerged in the water.
"All passengers aboard the bus have now been rescued, with priority initially given to women, children, and those who were sick," read part of a statement by Kenya Red Cross.
"However, our efforts are ongoing as we continue to rescue other commuters who were stranded due to the road being cut off at Arer near Tulla Bridge, Tana River County."
