The incident follows a notice from the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA), informing the public of the closure of a section of the Nairobi-Garissa road.

The road authority on Monday announced the closure of the Nairobi-Garissa (A3) road after the Mororo area between Madogo and Tana River Bridge was swept by floods.

“The flooding at Mororo has compromised one lane of the road. This poses a high safety risk to road users," KeNHA noted.

Also closed on April 5, was the North Horr-Kalacha (B75) Road in Marsabit County, after the floods blocked part making it impassable.

The authority further advised motorists to use alternative routes. Contractors were also deployed on standby to make a proper assessment and possible reinstatement of any damaged section of the road.

The authority noted that the highway has been flooded and is impassable following the heavy rains experienced in various parts of the country.

On Tuesday, the National Disaster Operation Centre issued a directive informing residents surrounding the Seven Forks Dam about spillage concerns following heavy rains experienced in the country.

According to the letter sent to several County Commissioners, residents living in low areas of Garissa, Lamu and Tana River counties were advised to vacate to higher grounds.

"This is to inform you that Seven Forks Dams are almost spilling over. Heavy rainfall over the past few days in Mt. Kenya, the Aberdares and Nyambene hills has caused water levels to rise rapidly, therefore resulting in potential risks to life and property.
