Former Riruta Member of County Assembly Samuel Njoroge was on Friday sentenced to 30 years imprisonment after being found guilty of murder.

On April 5, Njoroge was found guilty of involvement in the murder of his former wife, Lucy Njambi.

The MCA was deemed guilty alongside two other suspects in the murder incident which occurred in 2018 where Njambi was kidnapped, and sexually assaulted.

In the judgment delivered by Justice Joel Ngugi at a Kiambu court on April 5, the jury directed that the three be placed under custody until their sentencing which took place today.

The judge stated that the trio was involved in the murder of Njambi beyond any reasonable doubt.

Justice Ngugi during his judgement added that the prosecution lined 38 witnesses against the accused persons and that despite a few discrepancies in the evidence tabled against the three, the court made amendments where it deemed necessary.

In 2018, Njambi was kidnapped, sexually assaulted and left for the dead. Further details in the ordeal suggested that she was soaked in acid the night she was kidnapped.

Following the incident, detectives embarked on investigations which led to the arrest of Samuel Njoroge who was charged with murder.

After the assault, Njambi was left lying helpless in a coffee plantation where a passer-by picked her up and took her to the hospital.

She was rushed to Kiambu Level Five Hospital but was transferred to Kenyatta National Hospital for specialised treatment, unfortunately, she died.

According to the prosecution report, moments before her death, Njambi informed her relatives and doctors that her estranged husband hatched the attack.

Among those present in court during the sentencing included Githunguri Member of Parliament Gathoni Wamuchomba.
