Former Riruta Ward Member of County Assembly Samuel Njoroge was on Friday, April 5, found guilty of involvement in the murder of his former wife, Lucy Njambi.

Njoroge was found guilty of murder alongside two other suspects in the tragic incident which occurred in 2018 where Njambi was kidnapped, and sexually assaulted before being murdered.

In the judgment delivered by Justice Joel Ngugi at a Kiambu court, the judge affirmed that the three suspects were involved in the murder of Njambi beyond a reasonable doubt.

Justice Ngugi during his judgement stated that the prosecution lined up 38 witnesses against the accused persons and clarified that despite minor discrepancies in the prosecution's evidence, the court keenly addressed the issues.

The court further cancelled bond requests for the accused and hence the suspects will remain in custody until the sentencing date which has been set for Friday, April 12.

In 2018, Njambi was sexually assaulted and burnt with acid the night she was kidnapped. Following the incident, Njoroge was arrested and charged with the murder of his ex-wife after detectives found evidence implicating him.

Following her assault, she was left lying helpless in a coffee plantation where a passer-by picked her up and took her to the hospital.

Njambi was taken to Kiambu Level Five Hospital, where she received first aid, but was later transferred to Kenyatta National Hospital for specialised treatment where she succumbed.

The prosecution stated that before Njambi died she informed her relatives and doctors that her estranged husband hatched the attack.

While commenting on the matter moments after the judgement was rendered, Githunguri Member of Parliament Gathoni Wamuchomba stated that the shift would now focus on how Njoroge's 4-year-old son would be taken care of since the father was in detention.

"We understand that the 4-year-old son was taken forcefully from the grandmother by the accused and we do not know how safe the boy is now that the father is in prison," stated the vocal MP.

"How the son is going to live on and therefore would request that the civil society take up this case and let us see how we can help this young boy to make sure he gets all he deserves to get," Wamuchomba added.
