Police in Kirinyaga are currently investigating a tragic murder incident involving two minors in the Kagio area of Kirinyaga County.

The incident, which occurred on Friday, April 12, has left the local residents in profound shock, prompting questions about the circumstances surrounding this appalling act, especially as the suspected perpetrator, a form-three boy, has fled.

Reports indicate that a 17-year-old boy allegedly murdered his 12-year-old cousin under circumstances that are yet to be fully determined. The motive behind the murder remains unclear.

According to the victim's mother, she had gone to the market accompanied by her father and the household maid, leaving the two children at home to complete their homework.

After finishing their errands, the housemaid headed back home and left the parents to carry on with other personal affairs.

On arriving home, the maid found the girl lying in a pool of blood, with the boy nowhere in sight.

The parents then rushed home after receiving the fateful news and rushed her to the nearest hospital where she was pronounced dead on arrival.

Kirinyaga Police Commander Andrew Naibei noted that the police have since launched a manhunt for the boy, asking area residents to report and apprehend him.

"She had visible injuries on her body. We are searching for the suspect and we will bring him in," Naiei stated after transferring her body to the Kibugi Funeral Home for post-mortem.

In another incident on Saturday morning, sorrow engulfed the Muramati and Jua Kali areas in Laikipia after a National Police Reservists officer was found dead.

According to local reports, the soldier was murdered by unknown assailants suspected to be thieves.

He was shot and bled to death as there was no one on-site. The murder weapon is yet to be retrieved as police launch investigations in search of the perpetrators.
