Haiti business leaders on Wednesday raised concerns over the delay in the deployment of Kenyan police to Haiti.

In a letter addressed to President William Ruto, the leaders of eight top business chambers requested Ruto to fast track the deployment to enable the Caribbean nation set itself on a path towards recovery.

According to the leaders, despite the agreement having been reached on the deployment, the mission had been delayed by six months.

The leaders further raised concern about the fast-approaching deadline of the deployment which was supposed to happen within the first 12 months upon agreement.

Amidst a call for faster deployment, the businessmen affirmed their commitment to working with Kenya to ensure the deployment was a success.

The leaders also acknowledged the formation of a presidential transitional council which they noted would help in restoring the much-needed serenity in Haiti.

The notice comes even as the gangs intensify their takeover of the Haiti cities, posing more anarchy to the already troubled nation.

In October last year, the United Nations Security Council approved Kenya's deployment of its troops to the war-torn country.

United States President Joe Biden who instigated the move, offered billions to fund the multinational mission which was at the time of the agreement, termed urgent.

Similarly, on March 1, Kenya signed an agreement with Haiti allowing the deployment of 1,000 police officers to the Caribbean nation.

The agreement was signed at State House in the presence of Haiti's Prime Minister Ariel Henry and Kenya's Head of State William Ruto.

"We are offering the experience and expertise of our police officers in the Multinational Security Support Mission in Haiti as mandated by the United Nations Security Council and as guided by our courts," Ruto declared.
