Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja has revealed that the county government will put up a Ksh156 million dancing fountain at the renovated Uhuru Park.

Speaking during the official handing over of Uhuru Park on Thursday, April 18, he noted that more work would still be done at the national monument amounting to Ksh500 million.

On the other hand, he also detailed that the county government would open up a tendering process to have investors set up recreational facilities such as a night club.

"We want to do a dancing fountain at Ksh156 million," he stated.

"We are going to issue tenders for business facilities that are here. We have restaurants, such as African restaurants. There is a nightclub that is going to be here.

"You can come here and scream the way you want. We do not want noise in the estates. That tendering will be done in a very transparent way," he stated.

Meanwhile, he also indicated that the park will also have manual gym equipment to allow residents who want to keep fit to enjoy using the park.

In partnership with other companies, two basketball courts will also be set up at the park.

Equally, the existing pond will also be drained to allow for contractors to redo the bond set to have clear water.

According to the governor, the majority of the additional work will be done within the next nine months and fully funded by the county government.

Sakaja also reiterated that entry to the park would be free, however, those accessing the facility will have to have Identity cards.

This requirement is aimed at enhancing security and ensuring that the park remains clean.
