Budalangi Member of Parliament (MP) Ababu Namwamba has found himself at the centre of an ugly war of words regarding a planned visit by President Uhuru Kenyatta in his constituency.
On Wednesday, Namwamba told mourners during a burial in Bwokhola village to beware of politicians spreading rumours that President Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto would visit the constituency on Friday.
The former ODM Secretary-General further clarified that he and Bunyala Deputy County Commissioner Simon Ng’etich were still awaiting official communication from State House Comptroller Lawrence Lenayapa on when Kenyatta would visit Budalang'i.
The comments were not well received by former area MP and Jubilee activist Raphael Wanjala.
Wanjala stated that he had personally organised the scheduled tour by the President and warned Namwamba to keep off.
The former MP accused Namwamba of sabotaging his initiatives with the aim of creating the perception that Uhuru does not support Wanjala.
“I invited Uhuru in my capacity as a Jubilee Party member, so I fail to understand why Namwamba is fighting me over the issue,” he stated.
The Jubilee party activist stated that the President’s trip would continue uninterrupted beginning with the commissioning of the construction of Sigiri bridge, launch of Sisenye rice irrigation scheme and finally the unveiling of tractors.
"Namwamba invited Deputy President William Ruto for a fundraiser in Budalangi recently but I did interfere with him, why is he meddling in Jubilee Party affairs?" Wanjala asked rhetorically.
He warned Namwamba to concentrate on building his Labour Party.
It is not clear if President Kenyatta will visit his visit to Budalangi which is currently ongoing.
