Baringo Senator Gideon Moi Speaks on His Relationship with DP William Ruto

Baringo Senator Gideon Moi, who is also the KANU Party Chairman, has revealed that he does not speak with Deputy President William Ruto.

Speaking during an interview with the Nation, Gideon was asked whether he speaks with the deputy president and his response was “No. I have not had an occasion to talk to him [Ruto]. They don’t call us in their meetings, even when he was in Baringo recently over insecurity issues”.

On his relationship with Ruto, the Baringo Senator who has been a strong critic of the deputy president noted: “I have never crossed his path. He is not my enemy. We have never crossed each other’s paths. Ruto is not in my radar at this juncture.”

Asked whether he would support Ruto in his bid to become President in 2022, Gideon responded by saying “Ruto has never told me he wants to be president in 2022. He has never asked for my support.”

The KANU Chairman was also put on the spot over his party's declaration that they would support President Uhuru Kenyatta's re-election but not the deputy president.

"You, as Kanu, have said that you are supporting President Uhuru Kenyatta’s re-election but not his deputy. How possible is that given that the two are elected as one entity?" Gideon was asked.

"If William Ruto (Deputy President) is part of that, so be it. We have no issue with Ruto being part of that package. Personally, I don’t have any problem. We are seeing the big picture. We want President Kenyatta to be re-elected to complete his development agenda," he answered.

The Baringo Senator and the deputy President have been wrangling over control of the vote-rich rift valley region, with each one of them trying to stamp their political command in the region.

They have severally gotten into verbal altercations with the highlight of their rivalry playing out during the burial of former nominated MP Mark Too where they exchanged words before President Kenyatta.
