Boniface Mwangi Responds to Uhuru's Email Requesting Help in Fight Against Corruption

Outspoken civil rights crusader Boniface Mwangi has revealed details of a private email that was sent to him by President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Through his Facebook page, Mwangi revealed that early this year, he received an email message from the President regarding the fight against corruption in the country.

The activist further stated that while he was aware of the need to uphold secrecy, he was forced to reveal the contents of that email due to public interest.

Kenyatta’s message encouraged Mwangi to continue his fight against corruption with the President affirming his support to the initiative.

"It is with keen interest I take note of your courage and patriotism in this great country of ours. It is through you the youth that our country can change for the better. I have been fighting the cartels, drug barons and the land-grabbers left, right and centre. Now it is up to you to change the narrative. Publicly I have tried but I would like to support your efforts in this fight against corruption,” Kenyatta’s email read in part.

Mwangi stated that upon reading the strong message, “For a second I was wowed; maybe he means what he says about fighting corruption.”

He went on to add that the positive impression faded quickly because he realised that “this government’s track record is terrible”.

The outspoken journalist-cum-activist added that the President must walk the talk and fight corruption from the forefront, including making unpopular decisions against his close allies who are found to have engaged in graft.
