Busia Governor Sospeter Ojaamong's Convoy Attacked By Goons

Police in Busia were forced to shoot in the air when the convoy of Busia Governor Sospeter Ojaamong was attacked by goons on Tuesday.

Ojaamong was heading to Mayenje market for an Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) rally when rowdy youth, famously known as Marachi Republican Council (MRC), attempted to block his convoy.

Police had to fire in the air when the youth pelted his motorcade with stones.

The governor, who was accompanied by Matayos Member of Parliament Geoffrey Odanga, condemned the incident and said that he would not tolerate hooliganism meted on innocent politicians seeking votes.

This incident came just a day after Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho's car was shot at in Migori County during the party's political rally.

Leaders within the ODM camp had blamed Migori County Governor Okoth Obado of the fracas during the event but Joho later came out to allege that the attack may have been carried out by his political rivals in the government.

Kisumu County Commissioner Mohammed Maalim assured of the government’s commitment to ensuring peace during ODM nominations in the county scheduled for April 13.

He added that the county security intelligence team had identified trouble spots ahead of the party nominations to enable them be proactive in dealing with cases of violence.

ODM has been facing all sorts of trouble ahead of its primaries, with chaos also erupting today at Orange House after nominated Senator Elizabeth Ongoro stormed the headquarters with an "army of supporters".

Police were forced to fire after Ongoro's team stormed the ODM Executive Director's office over an alleged plot to bar her from vying for the Ruaraka Parliamentary seat.

She alleged that the party was undermining women, something that Ruth Odinga, sister to ODM party leader Raila Odinga, had also strongly condemned.
