Busia Paralyzed Children Arrive in Nairobi Hospital For Specialized Treatment

The 29 children who were left paralysed after they were injected at a dispensary in Akichelesit village in Teso North, Busia County arrived in Nairobi for specialized treatment today.

The children and their parents and guardians were ferried to Nairobi in two buses.

Parents of the children stormed the governors office two weeks ago demanding that action be taken against the nurses and doctors of the dispensary after their children got paralysed after they were treated there.

The children are said to have been injected with rugs to treat malaria, ony for the drug to have adverse effects on their limbs.

There were speculations of misdiagnosis and use of the wrong drugs.

Following the incident, Health CS Dr. James Macharia appeared before the Health Committee of the National Assembly where he gave an assurance that the situation was being handled. 

The same day, Nairobi hospital management offered rehabilitation and treatment services for the children.

The nurse and doctors who treated the children in Busia will reportedly face legal action after investigations into what caused the paralysis are complete.
