Campaigning for Uhuru Cost Me Cherangany Parliamentary Seat - Joshua Kutuny Reveals

President Uhuru Kenyatta’s political advisor and former Cherangany Member of Parliament Joshua Kutuny has revealed how supporting for the Head of State in 2013 cost him his seat.

Mr Kutuny, who was based at State House, divulged that in the last General Election, he concentrated on campaigning for Kenyatta and Deputy William Ruto and failed to focus on his re-elected which ultimately saw him lose the seat.

The former MP stated that he thought his constituents would understand the effort he was putting to get the Jubilee Coalition to power in 2013 and consequently vote him back.

“I failed to do serious campaigns in Cherangany and instead concentrated on national politics. I thought my constituents would understand and be kind to me,” noted Kutuny.

He said that his failure to do the ground work in the constituency saw the voters turn against him and ultimately lost to his opponent, Welsey Korir, by less than 1,000 votes.

The former MP revealed that the Jubilee team was not sure of winning considering that President Uhuru and his Deputy William Ruto were facing charges at the International Criminals Court (ICC).

He told the Standard that he was proud his efforts and sacrifice together with many others across the country helped President Kenyatta clinch the presidency.

On his relationship with the Head of State, Kutuny asserted that the President was a good listener and gave him the job that has given him a lot of experience by mingling with the who-is-who in the country and abroad.

The advisor declared that he would be seeking to recapture his former seat in the August 8 General Election under the Jubilee Party.
