Class 8 Pupil Arrested with Gun, Police Uniforms

Police in Kisumu are investigating an incident in which a primary school pupil was arrested with a gun, 20 rounds of ammunition and police uniforms.

The Standard 8 pupil was nabbed with the assorted weapons that also consisted of arrows and bhang during a sweep of Sewage Estate in Manyatta, to flush out criminals that were terrorising residents in the area.

Police say that the boy was netted selling bhang before officers recovered the weapons during a search of his house. The 16-year old is believed to be part of a gang that is behind the sale of narcotics and a spate of violent robberies in the town.

However, the weekend crackdown only managed to nab one of the suspects as two accomplices evaded arrest.

Area OCPD Christopher Mshimba confirmed the incident stating that the gun belonged to one of the suspects who had escaped arrest.

“We have since discovered that the owner of the gun was away and we are pursuing him. We cannot ascertain whether he legally owns the gun or not, but we are looking for him. But even if he owns the gun legally, it is illegal to leave it unattended. The owner ought to have it with him every time,” Mshimba was quoted by the Standard.

The teenager is set to be arraigned in court on Monday.
