CORD in Fresh Trouble Over Attack on Waiguru

Members of Parliament from the Jubilee Coalition demanded for an apology from the Coalition for Reform and Democracy (CORD) for allegedly using derogative language against women in leadership positions.

Led by Thika Town MP, Alice Ng'ang'a, the female legislators stated that women should be addressed with dignity and respect and not portrayed in the light Devolution Cabinet Secretary Ann Waiguru was depicted.

“Whatever happened at Uhuru Park was pure insult and we shall stand our ground until the men say they are sorry for what happened in that rally,” she said.

Ms Ng'ang'a said that CORD leaders not only insulted Waiguru but also all women in Kenya.

In an interview on NTV, The National Alliance (TNA) party Chairman, Johnstone Sakaja termed the remarks at Uhuru Park as “unfortunate and embarrassing”.

“The statements made by CORD leaders were insinuating that the only way you can be successful as a woman is not through one's intelligence, but by use of unconventional means,” he retorted.

The Opposition sparked reactions after holding a rally at Uhuru Park where they criticised President Uhuru Kenyatta over how he handled corruption and the Education crisis in the country.

CORD Leader Raila Odinga, implied that President Kenyatta was protecting Ms Waiguru and giving her preferential treatment, despite her being linked to the graft claims at National Youth Service.

Kakamega Senator Bonny Khalwale, asked the President to tell Kenyans about the special relationship he has with Waiguru, that had seen her docket allocated unnecessarily high amounts of money that would otherwise be used to pay teachers.

The leaders stated that the government should give priority to children who have been sent out of school instead of focusing on less urgent issues.
