A man and woman on Saturday held their wedding at Outspan hospital in Nyeri County, leaving many surprised over how their plans could not be deterred by the circumstances that had befallen them.
Miriam Gakenia, 31, and James Mwangi, 27, were involved in a road accident on Tuesday evening – three days to their wedding day.
Gakenia suffered a right hip joint injury and a broken right arm, which saw her hospitalised, while Mwangi sustained a right hand injury.
Despite his wife being bedridden, Mr Mwangi said that could not have stopped them from exchanging the vows.
“The wedding had to go on. We had prepared for six months. The devil was not going to get in the way. She would have become my wife even if she had lost her legs," Mwangi said
The couple was joined in holy matrimony by Reverend Stephen Mungai, at an emotional ceremony that had the nurses as the bridesmaid.
Gakenia and Mwangi, however, could not put on their wedding rings or sign the marriage certificate as their hands were in casts.
According to a Star report, Ms Gakenia will remain in hospital for the next six weeks.
