Court Gives DPP One Week to Produce Missing Cleric

High Court Judge Lady Justice Ngenye Macharia has ordered the office of Director of Public Prosecutions to give a report on the progress made towards finding a Muslim cleric who is alleged to have gone missing after being arrested.

The report detailing grounds on which the religious leader was arrested and where the police are holding him is to be handed over to the court after one week.



Sheikh Khalif Abdullahi Madhobe is said to have been arrested on April 27th 2015 in Garissa after which he disappeared.

Family efforts to look for him in police stations and mortuaries bore no fruits and the family moved to court asking that the government be compelled to produce the man.

Through their lawyer Gitobu Imanyara, the Sheikh's kin demanded a that Madhobe be produced dead or alive.
