Court Orders Government to Stop Destroying Alcohol

The High Court has given the government a directive barring the destruction of alcoholic drinks made by Kenya Breweries Limited (KBL).

This follows the breweries complaint in court against the destruction of legally licensed products in the recent nationwide crackdown.

The crackdown started when President Uhuru Kenyatta gave chiefs and Assistant Chiefs mandate to destroy second generation alcoholic drinks.

Kenyans, however, went on rampage in many parts of the country, destroying bars and depots, regardless of whether they stocked legal or illicit products.

President Kenyatta has since given a directive that the crackdown be brought to an end.

Many traders have been left counting huge losses.

While filing the complaint, KBL said it has lost, property worth millions of shillings in the crackdown, according to Citizen News.

The order stopping the destruction of KBL's products was addressed to the Cabinet Secretary (CS) for Interior and Inspector General of Police (IG).
