A student believed to be from Daystar University, Athi-River campus, was shot while in the company of suspected thugs who tried to run away from the police.
Reports indicate that the suspects wanted to forcibly enter the Campus, when they were locked out by Lavington Security guards at the institution.
After they failed in their first attempt to access the premises, the gang is said to have returned to make their way into the University, only to find police officers who had been called in by the guards.
Upon seeing the Police, the gang began running towards their get-away car when one of them, a student, was accidentally shot in the leg as the police aimed to deflate the vehicle tyres.
Two of the gang members including the car driver are reportedly in police custody.
