'Dead' Man Finally Returns Home

A man presumed dead by his relatives, on Tuesday returned home in Narok County, after disappearing for three years.

Paul Kerich, 46, resurfaced to the shock of villagers and family that had buried a body they thought was his on December 27, last year.

Mr Kerich's brother, Simon, had positively identified a body found by the police floating in Ewaso Nyiro river as his brother's, hence obtained a death certificate and a burial permit afterwhich they buried the remains.

It is reported that the family was in agony, after losing touch with Kerich and believed that he was swept away by floods into River Ewaso Nyiro.

The returnee, who had left behind four children and wife, came back home after he learnt of his 'death’ from a man he knew. Kerich said he had been working at Ewaso Nyiro as a contractor in a construction site, but moved to another place where he lost touch with his family.

Kerich met with the elders for a cleansing ceremony before rejoining with his family.

His wife told the Standard that as a family they had moved on and her children had put up with being orphans.

“We had adjusted to life without him. The children buried their father. They knew he had gone to be with the Lord. I knew I was a widow and my children fatherless,” she said as she stared at her husband.

The family has now moved to court to follow the process confirming their brother is still alive.

Area OCPD Philip Kipkirui, said that the exhumation of the body will be carried out after getting a permit from the court.
