At least 153 people have been affected by dengue fever outbreak in Mombasa.
According to Mombasa County Health Executive Binti Omara, private hospitals have recorded 119 cases while public health facilities have recorded 34 cases.
The infection is said to be spread by Aedes aegypti a mosquito that spreads yellow fever.
Dengue fever has three stages which include dengue with warning signs, dengue without warning sign and severe dengue.
The first stage is characterised by nausea, vomiting, rash, abdominal pain, fluid accumulation, restlessness and liver enlargement up to two centimetres (CM).
If the infection gets to a severe stage, it can lead to heart and liver failure and possible death.

There is no specified vaccination or treatment for dengue fever, however, it can be managed through a fluid placement therapy.
Dengue mainly occurs in tropical and subtropical areas.
In Kenya, the disease previously occurred in the North Eastern region and currently in the coastal region. However, it may spread anywhere the Aedes aegypti mosquito is.
