Details of Jubilee's Plan to Have Peter Kenneth as its Candidate for Nairobi Governor

Details of a plan hatched by powerful figures in the Jubilee party to make former Presidential candidate Peter Kenneth their candidate for the Nairobi gubernatorial race have emerged.

The Standard on Sunday reported that it was in possession of a three page document that reveals a clear plan to have all other Jubilee aspirants for the city’s executive seat resign in favour of Kenneth.

According to the document, former TNA Chairman Johnson Sakaja will be compelled to back out of the race for a slot in the Jubilee party Secretariat where he will work alongside Raphael Tuju.

Former Starehe MP Margaret Wanjiru, who has also been eyeing the party’s ticket, will be given a Cabinet position in return for her exit from the crowded race.

Nairobi Senator Mike Sonko, who is regarded as the leading contender, has been given the option of defending his current seat, or becoming Kenneth’s running mate.

The document, however, does not speak on the fate of Dagoretti South MP Dennis Waweru.

The Sunday Nation has also reported that the Jubilee party bosses are working on a consensus plan where the party will have the best candidates for various seats in Nairobi without having to go through nominations.

The paper also reported its sources describing a meeting by wealthy Nairobi businessman who are pushing for Kenneth’s candidature as a safe bet for the city’s growth.

The businessmen are said to have asked President Uhuru Kenyatta to ensure that the former Presidential candidate is given the Jubilee ticket, a move that has angered the other aspirants who have spent millions of shillings in early campaigns.

If the consensus plan is implemented, the candidates who withdraw will also be compensated for expenses incurred in early campaigns.
