Duale Claims He Funded Raila During 2007 General Election

Majority Leader in the National Assembly Aden Duale revealed that he heavily funded NASA leader Raila Odinga during the 2007 General Election.

Duale claimed that he had been instrumental in adding value to Odinga including helping the Orange Democratic Movement get a high number of lawmakers in the 2007 polls.

The Garissa MP was responding to the Opposition leader who had earlier alleged that he had picked up Duale and helped build his career by making him an MP in the previous polls.

According to Duale, he is the one who assisted Odinga by funding his presidential campaign as well as helped him get a national outlook.

"In 2007, it is I who delivered more than 10 MPs in North Eastern to ODM and heavily funded his campaign. It is I who added value to Raila's politics by giving him a national outlook; from a Luo leader to a national leader," he asserted.

The Majority Leader further affirmed that he parted ways with the former Prime Minister due to ideological differences where he went ahead to join the United Republican Party (URP) which beat Odinga.

“We formed URP. He lost again to URP and Jubilee in 2013 when more than 15 MPs were elected on the party's tickets," he added.

Odinga said he was baffled at how the MP was constantly attacking the Opposition yet he helped him when he was a 'nobody'.

The former Prime Minister indicated he spearheaded Duale's career in politics way back in 2007 when he picked him from Mombasa and urged the Sheikhs to support him in the then Dujis constituency parliamentary seat.

"I personally picked up Duale and took him to one of the Sheikhs and a group of renown elders in Garissa Town, and prevailed upon them to support him for the Dujis constituency parliamentary seat," Odinga said.

The ODM leader further highlighted it was unfortunate that since Duale changed camp and joined Jubilee, he was always abusing him.
