A presidential aspirant in the upcoming August 8 General Election has heavily criticised Deputy President William Ruto over the shoot to kill order he issued on Friday in Baringo county.
Thirdway Alliance Kenya Party leader Ekuru Aukot, in a strongly worded message, dismissed the order urging that it be treated with contempt.
Aukot described the DP's directive as “primitive” adding that it showed the lack of leadership skills in the Jubilee government.
“He is not worth it. I think we should dismiss that with the contempt it deserves. Shoot-to-kill directive is very savagery. It is an admission that government has actually failed,” stated Aukot.
He added that the government had neglected the region where bandits had been attacking and killing residents in the pretext of cattle rustling.
“When you take away the wealth of a nomadic pastoralist for example, which are his cows, camels and the rest, using the barrel of a gun, what this country has done for the last 54 years is to describe that as cattle rustling", he asserted.
The presidential aspirant indicated that the government should follow the "rule of law" in dealing with the attackers who he said, should be treated as criminals.
The DP while on a tour of Baringo and Elgeyo Marakwet counties, which have recently experienced frequent attacks, issued the kill order as a measure of curbing the insecurity.
