Ex-KDF Soldier Sends Petition to Parliament Over Unfair Disciplinary Action

A former Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) soldier has sent a quite interesting petition to members of the National Assembly through Speaker Justin Muturi.

Benjamin Chelang’a, who was a corporal in the KDF, is seeking to have the legislators change the classification of his conduct on his termination certificate from “good” to “very good” over what he termed as unfair disciplinary action against him.

Chelang'a stated that he was unfairly dismissed from the service after false accusations which saw him spend time in prison for 42 days.

Speaker Muturi told Parliament that the ex-military man lodged a complaint highlighting that his constitution rights as an employee had been violated.

"The Petitioner, therefore, prays that the National Assembly examines the legitimacy of the process applied in his dismissal and in the classification of his conduct as ‘Good’ instead of ‘Very Good’ as indicated in the termination of service certificate," Muturi said.

The Speaker directed the Labour and Social Welfare Committee to look into the petition and report back to him within 60 days.

"It may be well that the grievances of the Petitioner may be resolved without having to [resort] to a Court Martial process," the Speaker noted.
