Ex-President Mwai Kibaki Praises Uhuru as a Truthful Leader

Former President Mwai Kibaki on Monday made a rare comment on the character of President Uhuru Kenyatta while making his tribute at the burial of the late Nyeri Governor Nderitu Gachagua.

Kibaki, who has kept a low profile since his retirement in 2013, praised Kenyatta as a truthful leader whom Kenyans should trust.

"In politics, you can tell when one is being truthful and when they are not. This young man is a truthful person and you should trust him on these issues," the former President stated while pointing at Kenyatta.

Kibaki stated that he had been out of the limelight as a result of some challenges he was facing but did not expound.

In 2016, the former President lost his wife Lucy Kibaki.

In the same year, the veteran politician was flown to South Africa after suffering a mild stroke. He was treated and discharged after two weeks.

Meanwhile, during Gachagua's burial Devolution Cabinet Secretary Mwangi Kiunjuri excited mourners during the burial when he revealed that former President Mwai Kibaki paid his fees at the University of Nairobi (UON).
