EXCLUSIVE: What Killed 'King of Mugithi', Salim Junior

A brother to popular Kikuyu musician Paul Kamau commonly known as Salim Junior, has revealed details of events that led to the demise of the musician.

Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke, Mighty Salim, explained how the musician had been suffering from a chest infection that had troubled him since November, when he was admitted at Kenyatta National Hospital.

According to the brother, Salim had been attending various hospital clinics from his home in Kahawa West estate in Nairobi until two weeks ago, when his health deteriorated.

The musician was moved from Nairobi to his family home in Subukia in Nakuru County where he continued receiving treatment.

Salim Junior's illness got worse on Saturday morning and his family members decided to rush him to Nakuru Memorial Hospital. However, doctors confirmed his demise upon arrival at the Hospital.

News of his death caused shock across the music industry with most of his fellow musicians and media personalities taking time to pay tribute to him.

His colleague, Muraya Junior, expressed his deep sorrow describing the musician as a true friend whom he had known and worked with for a long time.

Salim took over the industry after introducing his unique style, Mugithi, which earned him the title of One-man-guitar.

He gave new life to most vernacular and secular and gospel songs by releasing their remix through his unique style, and orientated budding artists struggling to find an entry point into the industry.
