Finally Uhuru Moves to Defend Ruto in ICC Saga

President Uhuru Kenyatta finally broke his silence on the matter surrounding the International Criminal Court, when he vehemently told off ICC judges over their warning to politicians, asking them to stop abusive utterances against the court during prayer meetings for Deputy President William Ruto and Journalist Joshua Sang.

Addressing the nation during the Mashujaa Day celebrations, Kenyatta supported the prayer rallies saying their was no way a judge could stop them from praying.

“Let us continue praying. A judge cannot deny us the right to pray. We believe in God and we have the freedom of prayer and we shall continue praying because we know the benefit of prayers,” said Kenyatta.

“Those always telling us about ICC should leave us along to build the country and continue uniting all Kenyans,” he added.

Kenyatta addressed the issue amid discord from a section of URP leaders who had accused their collegues in the Jubilee coalition of neglecting Ruto.

However, Senate's Minority Leader Moses Wetangula raised his concerns over the use of prayer rallies to poison Kenyans with hate messages.

“What is disturbing is the hijacking of very solemn moments of prayer to be used to channel off hate speeches, cheap propaganda and to ignite passions of the post election violence of 2008”, he lamented.

The relationship between Kenya and the ICC has worsened after judges warned politicians against attacking the court due to decisions that it made, claiming that such would undermine the authority of the court.

Nevertheless, the Jubilee leaders have openly disregarded the judges' warning when they held another rally at Suswa, Narok over the weekend where they took a jab at the court.
