Forces Behind Ruto's ICC Woes Named

A section of Jubilee leaders have come out to criticize some Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) over the woes facing Deputy President William Ruto and Joshua Sang at the International Criminal Court (ICC).

The leaders named two NGOs which were allegedly impeding efforts to have the ICC cases against Ruto and Sang dismissed.

Speaking at a prayer rally in Ol Kalou, Majority Leader in the National Assembly, Aden Duale, took a swipe at Amnesty International and Africa Centre for Open Governance (AfriCOG) for frustrating attempts to rescue Ruto and Sang.

Earlier on, Pokot South MP, David Pkosing, sponsored a petition asking the Assembly of State Parties (ASP), who are signatories of the Rome Statute to halt cases against the two. The petition received massive support, including that of 50 CORD MPs.

Duale further claimed that one of the NGOs had written a letter asking the ASP to dismiss the petition.

The claims were reiterated by Elgeyo Marakwet Senator, Kipchumba Murkomen, who accused the NGOs of benefiting from donor funding at the expense of the ongoing cases with the aim of dividing Kenyans.

The leaders have been holding a series of prayer rallies for Ruto and Sang in an effort to stop the cases against the two. Their efforts were boosted by an intervention from the African Union which wrote to the ICC, asking to submit its suggestions on the contentious rule 68 that allows the use of recanted evidence against suspects.
