A form four leaver at Uruku Secondary School in Ndaragwa, Nyandarua County, drowned after slipping into a river during a photo shoot.
The student who was with his classmates completed his Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examination on Friday afternoon, before going for a photo session to mark the end of high school studies, when the incident happened
Neighbours claimed to have heard screams and rushed to the scene, but were unable to save the lad despite having called the school management for help.
“We rushed to the ground and found the students crying saying that one of them had drowned. The students were all shocked,” said Joseph Njaramba a resident in the area.
Nyandarua North OCPD, Morris Assillah affirmed that they would seek assistance from divers to retrieve the body.
Mr Assillah stated that they had launched investigations into the matter to find out what exactly took place.
