Former Devolution Cabinet Secretary Anne Waiguru Asks Court to Lift Gag Order on NYS Scandal

Former Devolution Cabinet Secretary Anne Waiguru has now moved to the High Court seeking the overturning of an order prohibiting her from publicly commenting on the Sh1.6 Billion National Youth Service (NYS) corruption scandal.

The Kirinyaga gubernatorial aspirant told the courts that the ban was an infringement on her Freedom of Expression rights and pleaded for the ban to be lifted.

The court injunction was issued in February by Principal Magistrate David Mburu after suspects named in the scam claimed that Waiguru had been commenting on the matter in an attempt to gain political mileage.

The chief complainant, Paul Kihara, added that Waiguru's prejudicial remarks were being published by the media and would affect the proceedings on the case.
