Governors to Be Held Personally Responsible for Graft Cases in Their Dockets - Wabukala Says

Anxiety has gripped top officials in government after newly-appointed Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) Chairperson Eliud Wabukala announced that he would hold them personally accountable for graft cases committed in their dockets.

Speaking during his swearing-in ceremony, Wabukala stated that high-ranking officers like Governors, Cabinet Secretaries among others will not be spared.

“Fighting corruption should not be left entirely to the Commission. Cabinet Secretaries, Principal Secretaries, executive officers, Governors and accounting officers must take responsibility and should also be held answerable for what happens in their ministries, departments and counties,” Wabukala affirmed.

The clergyman also called on Judges and Magistrates to ruthlessly deal with individuals who have been convicted of corruption.

“I call upon magistrates who hear the criminal corruption cases to impose deterrent sentences on those who are convicted; as this is critical if the war on corruption is to be won; and it is my belief it will be with God’s help and our determination,” the new EACC boss stated.

The former Anglican Church of Kenya (ACK) Archbishop promised that he would ensure corrupt individuals are not be spared again.

The position of EACC chairman fell vacant following the resignation of former anti-corruption boss Philip Kinisu on August 31.

Kinisu left office amid pressure after a company linked to him was mentioned to have received Sh35 Million in the infamous NYS scandal.
