GSU Commandos Deployed in Migori Ahead of ODM Nominations

General Service Unit (GSU) commandos have reportedly been deployed in one of ODM leader Raila Odinga's strongholds.

The officers were sent to Migori county following fears of violence during the Orange party nominations set for Friday.

The GSU officers will now be mandated with maintaining security during the polls, to avoid ugly scenes which have so far been reported in most of the areas where the ODM nominations have taken place.

A fierce battle is expected especially in the governorship race, with the top contenders being incumbent Okoth Obado and former Minister Ochillo Ayacko.

The County has in the recent past witnessed chaotic scenes during the campaigns, with the recent one being an incident where Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho was shot at.

Joho had led ODM leaders including Senators Anyang' Nyong'o and James Orengo to a rally in the County when rowdy youth caused the fracas.

The politicians later accused Obado of hiring the youth to disrupt the rally which saw the crowd engage in running battles with anti-riot police officers.

Governor Obado was summoned by the ODM disciplinary committee which later fined him Sh2 Million over the chaos.
