High Court George George Odunga Orders Removal of Bumps Along Thika Road

Thika Road users have a reason to smile after the High Court ruled that the Nairobi City County should remove the bumps and rumble strips placed on the busy highway within 60 days.

Through Justice George Odunga, the Court directed the county to form a Nairobi city management board and have a Nairobi city manager who will oversee implementation of the order.

The ruling was made in a case that had been filed by area Senator Mike Sonko.

In his suit filed through city lawyer Harrison Kinyanjui, Sonko stated that the bumps and the rumble strips have served as a major inconvenience for city residents as they have been found to be the cause of traffic jams.

The county is expected to erect footbridges in place of the numerous bumps.

Last year, the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure announced that it had set aside some Sh300 Million for the erection of 12 extra footbridges that would pave way for removal of all bumps and zebra crossings along the road.

Fondly referred to as the Thika Superhighway, the road is one of the busiest and was constructed at an estimated cost of Sh32 Billion.
