How an Officer is Winning the War Against Crime Through Preaching

A police officer in Nakuru is making a mark in his area of jurisdiction by fighting crime with a gun in one hand and in the other- a Bible.

OCPD Bernard Kioko while speaking to The Star, said that weekly lunch hour preachings which are open to members of the public have gone a long way into changing the negative attitude the public has towards the police.

As such, community policing in the area has grown tremendously- leading to a decline in crime rate.

Being one of the police-pastors in the area, Kioko says the two jobs, contrary to what many might think, marry well.

He started preaching in 1999 and has continued to do so in all the places that he has been posted to, in his line of work.

“Ever since I came to Nakuru town and begun preaching, cases of crime have gone down. It is all because of sharing the word of God,” Kioko says.

Although skeptical at first, other police officers joined Kioko in the open fellowships after noting the positive influence.

Now, a group of police officers from the area preach alongside him- having found the perfect balance between the police work and the pulpit.
