Kakamega Senator Bonny Khalwale has denied allegations leveled against him, claiming that he received Sh12 Million as a bribe to silence him over the Mumias Sugar saga.
The Senator's reactions were sparked by a “stamped” document that was making rounds on social media, showing that Mr Khalwale had deposited Sh12 Million into his account in Co-operative Bank on September 4, 2015.
The Senator defended himself on a local WhatsApp group claiming that the deposit slip was fabricated by “desperate political competitors”.
“Look at it closely, first, the account number has 13 digits instead of the normal 14. Secondly, the stamp does not bear signature of the bank teller and thirdly, all deposit slips are normally franked electronically to reflect the names of the account holder and not the account number. This one is not. In any case the ID number aint mine and by the way banking these days is digital at Co-op such that depositors don’t complete a manual deposit slip,” Mr Khalwale said on his post.
Khalwale stated firmly that the fight against corruption in Mumias Sugar Company was still ongoing.
“Join me in fighting sugar imports syndicate and as for Kidero and I, the matter is very much alive in court.” he retorted.
Senator Khalwale was on the front line in the fight against importation of sugar into the country, claiming that it would kill the local Sugar industry.
He also accused Nairobi Governor, Dr Evans Kidero of embezzling funds from Mumias Sugar Company thus its downward plunge.
Dr Kidero denied the allegations and sued the senator for linking him to Mumias Sugar woes.
