ICC Rejects Part of Evidence Against Ruto

In what comes as a victory-albeit a small one- for the defence team in the case against Deputy President William Ruto and former journalist Joshua Sang, the International Criminal Court (ICC) judges have rejected an application to present a document said to be implicating Ruto.

The Fatou Bensouda- led prosecution team had planned to use the document to demonstrate how Ruto was allegedly involved with a network believed to have perpetrated the 2007-2008 post election violence in Kenya.

The defence team had opposed the admission of the document, alleging that it had been fabricated.

The prosecution was however allowed to use five other documents which the defence team did not oppose.

The prosecution further said that the documents would be used to corroborate witnesses' evidence, as they were relevant to the charges against Ruto- The Standard reports.

Cases against Ruto and Sang at the Hague continue, after charges against Hussein Ali, Henry Kosgey, Francis Muthaura and President Uhuru Kenyatta were dropped.
