IEBC Meets Party Officials Over Nominations

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission will on Sunday meet all party Chairpersons and Secretary Generals to discuss on the ongoing party nominations that have been very chaotic.

IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati on a presser to media houses on Saturday indicated that the main agenda of the meeting would be enforcement of the electoral code of conduct and the ongoing party nominations.

“In the meantime, the commission urges all political parties involved in party primaries to do so in a peaceful, transparent and credible manner,” Chebukati said.

The announcement from the elections body comes in the wake of the canceled Jubilee party primaries after the exercise was marred by chaos over inadequate ballot papers in most counties.

The ruling party further stated that its nominations will be held on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday.

The same has been the case for the Orange Democratic movements (ODM) whose nominations across the country has been marred by chaos and aspirants crying over foul play.

For Instance, during the Mombasa ODM nomination conducted on Saturday Changamwe Member of Parliament Omar Mwinyi was arrested for disrupting during primaries.

Mwinyi and his supporters stormed Bomu polling station and destroyed voting materials.
