IEBC Takes Action on Moses Wetangula

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has formed a five-member special committee to accord Bungoma Senator Moses Wetangula an opportunity to justify why he should not be removed from the voters register.

After a special meeting held on Thursday, the Commission appointed Thomas Letangule as the Chairperson of the committee, which is scheduled to hand in a report to IEBC by 20th January 2016.

A Press release signed by IEBC Chairperson Ahmed Issack Hassan outlined other members of the team including; Lilian Mahiri-Zaja, Mohamed Alawi, Crispin Owiye and Moses Kipkogei.

Senator Wetangula is expected to appear before the committee on the 12th of January 2016.

The Bungoma Senator was found guilty of bribing voters during the 2013 General Election by the Supreme Court. Following the court ruling, IEBC was directed to take the necessary actions against Wetangula.

The legislator, however, has constantly denied engaging in the election malpractice.

This comes amid ongoing contention surrounding a report by International Media House BBC, linking Senator Wetangula to a corruption scandal at the British America Tobacco (BAT).
