InfoTrak Survey Reveals Bomet Governor Race Will be Tough Race Between Isaac Ruto and Joyce Laboso

Bomet Governor Isaac Ruto's re-election bid seems to be under serious threat if the latest InfoTrak survey is anything to go by.

On Wednesday, InfoTrak released a survey report for Meru and Bomet Counties showing that the incumbent governors would retain their seats if elections were held today.

Interestingly, however, in Bomet County it would be a do-or-die battle between Govenor Ruto of Chama Cha Mashinani (CCM) and his Jubilee party rival who is also the National Assembly Deputy Speaker Joyce Laboso.

According to the poll, Ruto would win with 38.9 per cent support while Ms Laboso, would follow closely with 37.7 per cent. This indicates that Laboso has just 1.2 percentage points to catch up with Ruto ahead of the August polls.

The National Assembly Deputy Speaker was recently endorsed by her clan to run for the Governor's seat and was also blessed and given powers of a community leader in a Kalenjin traditional ceremony.

Laboso is expected to give incumbent Governor Ruto a run for his money in the upcoming elections to be held on August 8.

The poll comes barely hours after fresh details emerged of a new deal between the Bomet Governor and his National Super Alliance (NASA) counterparts.

Mr Ruto broke ranks with Jubilee and formed his own party, Chama Cha Mashinani, which he will use to defend his seat.

Meanwhile, in Meru County, Governor Peter Munya leads the Meru gubernatorial race by 41.4% while his rival from the Jubilee party Kiraitu Murungi has 29% with President Uhuru's former advisor on Education matters, Kilemi Mwiria got 6.3. 20% of the population sampled was undecided.
