Interior CS Joseph Nkaissery Declares 2nd January Public Holiday

Interior Cabinet Secretary Joseph Nkaissery has declared Monday 2nd January a public holiday.

In a gazette notice published on Friday, CS Nkaissery noted: "It is notified for the general information of the public that the Cabinet Secretary for Interior and Co-ordination of National Government, in exercise of the powers conferred by section 3 of the Public Holidays Act, declares that Monday, 2nd January, 2017 be a public holiday".

The announcement was made considering New Year, January 1st is on a Sunday.

Section 4 of Public Holidays Act 2011 states that when a public holiday falls on a Sunday, the following day is treated as a holiday.

27th December 2016 was also declared a holiday since the Christmas and Boxing Day fell on Sunday and Monday respectively.
