It’s Now Illegal to Advertise and Promote Alcohol in Murang’a

As part of the ongoing illicit brew crackdown, Murang’a governor Mwangi wa Iria has banned the advertising and promotion of alcohol in the county.

Mwangi said that bars were taking advantage of the crackdown, advertising their products in an attempt to lure those who depend on the illicit brew being destroyed.

According to Citizen Digital, Mwangi was speaking in Murang’a town as he visited the county’s rehabilitation center.

He said that it made no sense for them to destroy the alcohol, only for a bar to sell residents the same alcohol.

He added that it was his responsibility to save residents from alcoholism, thus the ban.

Mwangi said bars caught defying the directive will face legal action.

It is unclear if the move to ban the advertisements is legal with some bar owners vowing to fight it

The fight against illicit brew over the past two months has seen leaders and residents alike take drastic measures to destroy the illegal alcohol.
