Jack Ranguma and Anyang' Nyong'o Declared Winners in Kisumu ODM Gubernatorial Nominations

A dramatic scene erupted in Kisumu after Senator Anyang' Nyong'o and incumbent Governor Jack Ranguma were both declared winners in the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) gubernatorial nominations.

County returning officer, Tom Okongo declared Mr Nyong'o the winner stating that he had garnered 164,110 votes.

Moments later, deputy returning officer Richard Kiyondi made a contrary announcement claiming that Ranguma was the winner with 118, 934 votes.

Both returning officers from the parallel tallying centres issued provisional ODM certificates to the two aspirants.

Governor Ranguma stated he was waiting for the ODM elections board to declare him the winner as he was the voice of the people while Senator Nyong'o argued that he was sure with the win.

“I am a leader and everyone knows that as a fact. I am actually surprised with the number of votes I got, I was expecting more votes,” Mr Ranguma stated.

The same scenario was witnessed on Tuesday in Migori County after gubernatorial aspirant Ochilo Ayacko and incumbent Okoth Obado were declared winners in the ongoing primaries.

However, the ODM Election Board later nullified the results.
