Jaguar to Vie for Starehe Parliamentary Seat

Popular musician Charles Kanyi popularly known as Jaguar has joined Nairobi politics and is set to vie for a parliamentary seat.

Speaking on Friday, Jaguar declared that he was ready to contest for the Starehe seat against incumbent Member of Parliament (MP) Maina Kamanda.

The award-winning musician is said to have spent the better part of the day conducting campaigns in the Central Business District which lies within the constituency.

He, however, did not indicate under which party's ticket he would be vying.

He joins the Starehe race which will also feature other prominent personalities including human rights activist Boniface Mwangi who has been conducting sustained campaigns especially on social media to popularise his candidature.

Also in the same race is Nairobi businessman Steve Mboya.

Recently, there were speculations that the artist was preparing to join politics ahead of the August 8 General Election.

In February, he resigned from the board of the National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA) citing personal reasons. He had been appointed to the position by President Uhuru Kenyatta.
